Board Spotlight: Cohen Rogers

Introducing, Cohen Rogers

This month we are proud to feature, Cohen Rogers, as our Board Spotlight!

Cohen was instrumental in forming a partnership with Miner to add an overhead door to our construction storage space. This addition has opened doors (literally and figuratively) for volunteer activities and allows us to accessibly store our building materials. In fact, we were so thankful for his lead on this initiative that we awarded him the title of “Rising Star” at our 2025 Friends of Habitat volunteer dinner.

Please take a moment to get to know Mr. Cohen Rogers!

Employer and title: Construction Estimator at Lifestyle Communities

Q: How long have you been involved with HFHWM and how has your involvement evolved over time?

A: “I experienced my first build day in 2022 and fell in love with the organization’s purpose and mission right away. I contacted HFHWM leaders asking how I could get more involved and shortly after I was blessed with the opportunity to serve on the board and the construction committee.”

Q: What inspired you to join the board of HFHWM?

A: “Growing up in a small town showed me the importance of community. Ever since I moved away from my hometown, I had the urge to serve my community. Since I have a career in construction, Habitat gave me a platform to leverage my construction knowledge and network to serve the community.”

Q: Do you serve on any HFHWM committees?

A: Yes. The Construction Committee.”

Q: What do you believe sets Habitat for Humanity apart from other nonprofits?

A: “What I like about Habitat is that they do not give out handouts. I love the fact that Habitat requires sweat equity. It not only shows what goes into their home but can also educate the future homeowners on construction. I also love that Habit requires financial courses for the applicants. I consider these things "a gift that keeps on giving".

Q: What skills or expertise do you bring to the Habitat board, and how have they been most impactful?

A: “The skills I bring the most are my construction skills and networks. Leveraging these things has helped resolve construction-related problems and we have also had some subcontractors that I am grateful for provide free material and labor.”

Q: Can you share a memorable moment from your time volunteering on a Habitat build?

A: “A memorable moment that comes to mind was my first build day since it is what motivated me to become more involved with Habitat. I always wanted to get involved with the community and wasn't sure how. That build day gave me the answer I needed. It was a great feeling to serve the community alongside my coworkers and even the future homeowner.”

Q: What has been the biggest lesson you’ve learned from serving on the board?

A: “Being on the board has opened my eyes to the different skill sets and perspectives that each individual brings to the table. HFHWM has done a fantastic job of building a strong board with bankers, real estate agents, and even homeowners. This has taught me what can be accomplished by seeking out counsel from individuals with different perspectives and experiences. It gives everyone an opportunity to leverage their strengths for the greater good of the community.”

Q: What motivates you to stay involved with Habitat and other organizations in our community?

A: “I have a soft spot for those in need and those that need help and this is one way of fulfilling that for me.”

Q: What message would you share with someone considering volunteering or donating to Habitat?

A: “You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Volunteering is a fulfilling experience that betters lives in the community. Plus, you will meet a lot of fantastic people while volunteering and maybe even learn a thing or two.”
